Well, my summer events have come to a close just in time for the final month of summer. July was a romance-heavy month (not complaining) but I was looking for something new at the library last week. I found two new (to me) authors, a new series, and two authors I’m interested in returning to!
Here’s my reading lineup for the month…
Beartown by Fredrik Backman
I’m currently in a reading phase of author-loyalty where I try to read everything an author has written (seriously, I read three Christina Lauren books last month). When I was choosing my next book at the library, I remembered that I read Anxious People during the pandemic and really enjoyed his writing, but I haven’t picked up a book by him since. AND it’s a series! It’s the story about a small town nestled in the woods, the secrets that come between community members, and the courage of one person.
Mrs. Nash’s Ashes by Sara Adler
A woman promises her elderly bestie to reunite her remains with the woman she fell for eighty years prior. Literally, enough said. I love a darker, heartfelt, human love story and this one apparently has parallel love stories. I needed a twist on a typical romance and I think this will do the trick.
Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes
A recently widowed woman leaves her empty home one year after her husband’s death while a former MLB pitcher navigates a career shift. Having a widowed female protagonist is not something I’ve read in a while, especially not in a friends to lovers romance. Standing in the library reading the first two pages, trying not to laugh out loud is what sold me. I love a book that can make me laugh.
Something She’s Not Telling Us by Darcey Bell
Naturally, couldn’t leave without a mystery. I read A Simple Favor years ago (pre-film) and I remembered really enjoying it, so stay tuned for my thoughts on this one.
xx,
KDC.
