My Mom is selfless. She is the kind of person who will go out of her way to make sure the people she loves feel taken care of. Alot of people don’t know the kind of starkly different childhood she experienced than the one she gave me. I will never take for granted the Mom that I am lucky enough to have. These are 11 of hundreds of things I’ve learned from her…
Monochromatic outfits are never a wrong move.
Never leave your drink at the bar.
Don’t underestimate how healing it can be to indulge your inner child.
Always pay your bills on time, even if it’s just the minimum.
Preparing for the hardest and inevitable moments in life doesn’t make those moments easier, but they do allow you more space to react within them.
Always be willing to leave the car dealership.
Fed is best and if anyone ever tries to make you feel bad for how you feed your future child, they should be told off swiftly and succinctly.
Try to never be alone on a subway platform.
It’s your Mom’s job to love you and help you no matter what.
Your husband should also be your best friend and someone you can do nothing with and laugh the entire time.
Handwriting is a lost art, but taking the time to beautifully write something for someone else is incredibly meaningful.
Happy Birthday, Mom. I’m so glad we have this time together. I’m so grateful for everything you’ve worked so hard to give me, and I’m so grateful to have a Mom who is also my friend. Thank you for your guidance, your practicality, your Irish eyes, your willingness to evolve, and your courage to live a different kind of life than the ones who came before you. I wouldn’t have any of what I do without you.
xx,
KDC.
